Josh Setala is a junior drummer from the Mountlake Terrace High School Jazz 1 program. From the feeding school, Brier Terrace Middle School, he is the only member of his trio to not have come from a school from an outside district. Known for his tall stature, Josh brings the rhythm and beat to the heart of the band, forming the core of the all-important rhythm section. Receiving a placement in the Jazz 1 program as a sophomore, Josh sought to follow in the footsteps of his older, more experienced counterpart, Kieran Faris, and learn everything he could about keeping the time, swing, and rhythm. Within his first year, Josh worked hard every day before school and after school to improve his drumming skills, even pursuing various gigs to garner a public audience. In his first year, he helped his band accomplish the feat of gaining a placement in the Essentially Ellington Competition, where he played a ferocious drum solo many have come to remember. Outside of the band, Josh is a student within the STEM Biotechnology program, and he seeks to pursue music and STEM as he furthers his career.
