Andrew Vinther

Andrew Vinther is a sophomore bassist from the Mountlake Terrace High School Jazz 1 program and the Cascade Youth Symphony Orchestra. An avid player, he transferred to Mountlake Terrace from the Snohomish School District, gaining a spot in the Jazz 1 program as a freshman, a feat accomplished by few. In addition, Andrew performs classical music in the Cascade Youth Symphony Orchestra, a youth ensemble program based in Seattle, and one of the most prestigious in the country. Andrew works hard in his studies, learning how to improve his improvisational skills and become the best bassist he can be. Throughout his short high school career, Andrew has already racked up a significant resume. In his first year, he and his band made it into the Essentially Ellington Competition. The most competitive youth jazz competition in the United States, only fifteen bands are selected to perform in New York out of hundreds of high school entries all over the country, in addition to Canada. With a performance in New York, Andrew has also performed in Hot Java Cool Jazz, hosted by Starbucks, as well as at Meany Hall and Benaroya Hall with his youth symphony. Just recently, Andrew received a placement in the Interlochen summer program in Michigan, a prestigious course known as The Juilliard of the Midwest.
